My Daily Devotional

A New Life

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Romans 12:2

Throughout the Bible God teaches us that our minds are to be brought under the control of Christ. How we act will be determined by how and what we think. If God is to change our lives, he must first change our minds. If we are able to change our lives and become the kind of person he wants us to be, we will then be ready to fulfill God’s plan for us. We will then be ready to witness for him and do his will. This new attitude starts with each one of us, and only we can make a change in ourselves, but we need the presence of God in our lives to make this change. When we are transformed by the renewing of our minds we will have a positive attitude about ourselves, which will result in a much happier person and improved self esteem. By having this new attitude we will be able to accomplish much more in our life than we ever expected, because God will now be in control and will be leading and guiding us. We will now be an example for others by our changed behavior and happy disposition. The human mind cannot be a vacuum. It must be filled with good or evil. It will be filled either with Christ or with carnality. What will make the difference depends on us, and what we allow to enter our minds. We must be careful to turn our minds away from evil. We must be careful what kind of television programs we see, what kind of books we read, what kind of music we listen to and what kind of things occupy our thoughts. It however isn’t enough to put bad thoughts out of our minds, as they have to be replaced with good thoughts—thoughts that are shaped by God and his Word. We must pray and worship God and fellowship with other Christians, and through these avenues our minds will be focused on the good things of life. We must turn away from every evil thought today, and ask God to fill our minds instead with good thoughts and become focused on doing the will of God. Ephesians 5:17 “Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” When our hearts are surrendered totally to the will of God, then we delight in seeing him use us in any way he pleases. Our plans and desires begin to agree with his, and we accept his direction in our lives. Our sense of joy, satisfaction, and fulfillment in life increases, no matter what the circumstances, if we are in the center of God’s will. The ministry of Jesus Christ was one of joy. The bible teaches us that a life of inner peace is a Christian’s birthright, which starts when we no longer conform to the patterns of this world, but are transformed by the renewing of our minds.
