Simplify Your Life

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24

In the fast paced world we live in today, the pressures of just getting by is literally draining the life out of people. There is no time for family time, as everyone seems to have every minute of their day accounted for. The never ending drive to accumulate material possessions leaves most not only exhausted, but dissatisfied. The weekends which used to be a time of rest and relaxation for families, has turned into the time to squeeze in a second job in order to pay the bills. This busy lifestyle is destroying the family, as spouses do not have time for each other, much less teaching their children the real values of life. The answer to all this is to “simplify” your life. It is not necessary that you possess all the luxuries that are available. You don’t have to have the newest gadget, the biggest house on the block, the newest car, the new designer clothes, or any of the other new fads that are the rage. In order to have all of these, and trying to keep up with the Joneses’, think what you are sacrificing. You are working every waking hour of your day, just to possess stuff that often times sets on the shelf and becomes out of date the week after you get it. The focus of your life should be on the things that really matter, your God and your family. When you get home from your job in the afternoon, and especially on the weekend, this should be quality time spent with your family. Life does not have to be the rat race you are making it. Get your priorities straight and simplify your life to spend on what really matters, making God and your family first. If this describes your life, I would encourage you to think about what your priorities really are. The first priority in your family should be to make God first in all you do. Get up each morning and read your Bible and pray together before you go on your way. When you get home from work, spend time with the family, and have dinner together. God and your family is your priority.
