My Daily Devotional

The Beginning Of Knowledge

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
Proverbs 1:7

Proverbs is a book that encourages Christians to seek wisdom, and states that it is worth more than silver and gold. Wisdom includes the guidelines to live a God filled life and the book of Proverbs urges people to get wisdom so they can experience the peace and joy that a Godly life will bring. It encourages good judgment and good sense in dealing with all the issues we face in our everyday life, and by following the principles and commands we find throughout the Bible will lead us to do the will of God. We must have a loving reverence for God that includes submission to his lordship and to the commands of his word. God is our king, but even as we stand in awe of him we can rejoice because we know that if we follow him and trust in him we will be protected by his love and can enjoy the blessings he can bestow upon us by following his commands. So the more we know and learn the more we will realize that God is in control of everything and without him we can do nothing and will have nothing. He warns us in the above scripture that if we do not seek wisdom and determine what is right and wrong, and rely upon ourselves and our own wisdom, we will never experience a true peace and joy in our life, and will never have the comfort of being able to turn to God for help in times of trouble. The more we learn about God and his will for our lives the more we will be uplifted and blessed by his love for us. Our lives will change and we will have the true peace and joy he promises us.
