Guard Your Children

“All your sons will be taught by the Lord, and great will be your children’s peace. “
Isaiah 54:13

In order to protect our children from the temptations of the world it is so important to have God at the center of our families. Our children need to see God in everything the family is involved with, the church, our friends, our lifestyles and our behavior all need to focus on a Godly life and one that teaches good family values. It is so important to let them know what is right and wrong and the majority of the time they will already know what to do when they confront situations on their own. This is where an open communication with your children that we discussed earlier is so important as you must be able to discuss the issues with your children and make them understand why a certain behavior or going along with certain fads is not acceptable within your family. When we send our children off to the typical middle school or junior high school in today’s world we cannot assume that all the children they will be associating with have the same family values as we have taught our children. Every school in our country have so many children that come to class every day from broken homes and unwholesome family situations and who have not had the proper leadership and guidance in their family to know what is right and wrong. There are many families that do not have God present in their homes and the children have not been taught God’s commands and had an example to follow. There are so many children who are so wounded and unloved in their family situations that attaching themselves to any kind of gang or clan gives them a small stable place of personal refuge and acceptance that they are not getting from their family. We need to guard our children to steer clear from these kinds of influences as in many cases these gangs or clans can represent a large part of the classes in our schools. It is so unfortunate that our society is breaking down in this regard but we must protect our children from these kinds of influences. I read an article recently that indicated that members of gangs prey on these troubled youth. It said that gang members are almost guaranteed to have issues of divorce, separation, and physical or sexual abuse present in their families. Our children must be prepared to combat the most insidious forms of peer pressure, as in some cases this can literally be a life and death issue. This is where the parents must be aware of their children’s activities at all times. If we have had God present in our families and taught them the commands of God they will be prepared to confront this peer pressure and be able to withstand the attacks of Satan on their lives.
