My Daily Devotional

A New Beginning

“Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.”
Genesis 9:14-15

Whenever I see a rainbow in the sky after a rain I think of a new beginning. After the earth was destroyed during the great flood, and only Noah and the inhabitants in the ark survived, God put a rainbow in the sky signifying that this was now a new beginning. The world had been destroyed because of its wickedness and only Noah and his sons and their families were spared. Noah was a righteous man who was blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God. But now after the flood there was a new beginning with the rainbow being the sign of this new covenant with God and all the life that was left on the earth. When we ask Jesus into our hearts all our sins are washed away and we also make a new covenant with Jesus. A rainbow should be all around us to signify our new covenant to live our lives for Jesus and to do his will. The wickedness and sins that were inside us and contaminated us were washed away in the flood, and our new self should be as apparent as the rainbow in the sky. Our storm should now be over and bright sunshiny days should be in our forecast. God promises us that if we ask him into our hearts that we will have everlasting life and that he will make a covenant with us and provide for us and give us an eternal life.
