My Daily Devotional

Start With The Inside

“In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.”
Matthew 23:28

Over the years I have observed that people make changes in their lives when they face a crisis. Many times a health problem, a financial issue, or a relationship that has gone bad will cause them to evaluate their lives and try to make a change. However, when you look at them a year or even a few months later they have reverted back to their old ways. We often see celebrities or sports figures being readmitted to drug rehabilitation centers after trying to make a change in their lives. The reason they have gone back to their old ways is that they haven’t gotten to the root of their problem. So often these people are being controlled by Satan, as he is ruling their lives, instead of God. When Satan is in control, he wants your life to be in disarray, and always out of control, as this is when you are at his mercy. However, when God is in control of your life, you will be able to get to the root of your problem. When the celebrities and sports figures only concentrate on the outward solutions, the problem still is alive on the inside and it’s just a matter of time until it resurfaces. Real and permanent change can only take place when the root of the problem is removed from the inside, and only God can allow it to be erased. In the scripture above Jesus tells us that unless we cleanse the inside, and remove the problem from our heart it will still remain, and keep coming back. If you need to make a change in your life today, let God help you first wash the inside, and then the outside will become clean also.
