God Answers Prayer
“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.”
So many times I have heard fellow church members say that they have been praying for certain things to happen in their lives, but they have not received any answers to their prayers. Throughout the Bible God tells us that he hears our prayers and will answer anyone who trusts in him and has faith. Psalm 145:18-19 “The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help.” It is so important to go to God in prayer. He may not answer us in the time frame that we expect and desire, but he hears our prayers and according to his will he knows when the time is right to respond to our needs. Our wants sometimes do not mesh however with his will for our lives, and when this occurs our wants and desires will not be met as they may not be what God really wants for our lives. I recall a story about a survivor of a shipwreck who was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and everyday he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect himself from the elements and to store his few possessions. One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames with smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened! Everything he owned was lost! He was stunned with disbelief, grief and anger. “God, how could you do this to me?” he cried. Early the next day he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. “How did you know I was here?” asked the weary man of his rescuers. “We saw your smoke signal,” they replied. The moral of the story is that it’s so easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn’t lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain, and suffering. We should remember that, the next time your little hut is burning to the ground it may just be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God. Psalm 91:14-16 “The Lord says, I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them. I will satisfy them with a long life and give them my salvation.” We must always not forget to talk to God about our troubles and also to thank him for the blessings he bestows upon us. God is always there to hear us in our times of difficulties and will rescue us from these times. We must be patient and trust in him to protect us and to provide all our needs in his time.
