The Burdens Of Life

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.”
James 1:2-3

Recently when I went to the grocery store I took my granddaughter Elena with me. As we were coming out of the store we both had our hands full of grocery bags. I did not notice but my granddaughter was struggling with carrying her bags and was falling behind me and was dragging them on the sidewalk. She was doing her best but she had too many bags to carry and began saying “grandpa help me.” Later on that night when I was reading my Bible I came across the above scripture and it reminded me of my granddaughter. Whether we asked for it or it was given to us, sometimes we wind up carrying burdens that are too heavy or awkward to handle. It would be so much simpler if God just took our burdens from us, as he could just send us a check in the mail, instantly heal our bodies, or mend our broken relationships. He could do all these things for us if He wanted to, but instead, He lets us carry our own loads. But he walks beside us and adjusts the burden just enough so that it’s bearable. God tells us that He will never give us more than we can bear. I believe trials sometimes serve no other purpose than to make us tougher. Each day you carry that burden, you’re a little bit stronger than you were the day before. God is walking beside you and even though you feel the burden on your shoulder, God is carrying the bulk of the weight, and its comforting to know that he’ll hold you up all the way home. If you are struggling with burdens in your life today and don’t know how you are going to carry them, ask Jesus to help you lighten the load. Today could be the day that you can ask Jesus into your heart and be your Lord and Savior, as He is just waiting to give you the greatest gift you will ever receive, an eternal home in Heaven. When God sent His son Jesus down to earth to die on the cross of Calvary to forgive you for your sins and give you His gift of salvation, He gave you the opportunity to share your burdens with Him. God can give you peace and comfort even during your darkest storms. Don’t continue another day without Jesus in your heart and bearing your burdens alone, ask Jesus into your heart and let Him give you the peace and comfort that only He can give. Your life will change and your eternal future will be secure.
